Brunswick, GA to Jacksonville Beach, FL

“Wheels up” at 6:30 am…whoops 20 minutes late!  Not really, we’re not on a time schedule we are just trying to get underway by or around sunrise; however, today we were entering an area we were warned has very little water at low tide, so our timing was to reach the area well into an incoming tide.  I got some better pictures of the very impressive Sidney Lanier Bridge this morning.

After cruising under the bridge we turned back onto the ICW at Fancy Bluff Creek by Jekyll Island.  This was the area we had been forewarned about, with shoaling in the channel.  About 10 minutes down the creek we ran out of water.  I guess we left a little too early!  With the incoming tide we had only to wait 20 minutes and we were on our way again without further mishap.

We continued our serpentine cruise down the Georgia ICW.  The weather promised to be warmer this afternoon, I’m WAY past ready for that!  Early in the afternoon we cross the Georgia/Florida border at St. Mary’s River to large factories on the ICW.  Not a very pretty or impressive gateway into Florida but the scenery gets better quickly…as does the weather!! Yippee!!

We arrived at Beach Marine in Jacksonville Beach, Florida at 4:15 pm.  The restaurant/bar is named Nippers and we stroll over to see if its anything like the world famous Nippers in Guana Cay, Bahamas….its not….but still a cool place.  However, we make a BIG mistake!  They have sushi on the menu and after last nights surprise meal in Brunswick, we are hoping for a repeat performance.  The names and descriptions should have warned us away from ordering sushi!  Things like: Buffalo BBQ chicken, Jamaican jerk pork, honey mustard cucumber….  Save yourselves!  We should have gone with a classic, the cheeseburgers looked and smelled delicious!

This next ones for Steve.

Steve loved that I’d run to the rail with my phone every time I saw a house I liked on the Intracoastal Waterway…NOT!  I guess I got a little carried away…and by a little carried away I mean over 100 pictures/houses 🙂
