We are “stern in” at Sombrero Marina Dockside for a couple weeks. No docks to walk down to get to land with Abby, nice. The marina has a bar and grill on site with good food and nightly live music. There are super markets, drug stores, restaurant/bars, banks…all within walking distance. On our dock, we met a lot of new friends and Steve reconnected with Jerry and Carolyn, all great people! Thank you Jerry for your good word to get us in the marina!
We took the dingy (Steve: our ghetto cruiser) out on a cruise with a six pack the day after we docked in Marathon, and every day after 🙂 Its still blowing but its warm…yay! We’re making a daily habit of cruising in the harbor, creeks and canals with the dingy and seeing a variety of wildlife. At our dock I saw a manatee (imagine me jumping up and down) I saw a manatee, I saw a manatee!! My first real encounter with a manatee in the wild! I love them!
Abby gets a “B” (we don’t say Bath within her earshot, she hates them) on the dock which draws in a manatee. Adorable!! Side note: Steve was just finishing Abby’s bath when the manatee arrived; and the shampoo was natural, non-toxic and biodegradable. It may have tasted funny but no harm came to the manatee or any other sea life.
We’ve joined our friends several times for happy hour on the dock or dinner at a local restaurant. While sitting on the bow or flybridge in the evening, we’ve been treated to several beautiful sunsets.
