West End to Great Sale Cay

We left Old Bahama Bay Marina yesterday at 9:00 am.  It was a beautiful day with almost no wind.  Happy Birthday Neal!!  You should be here!!!

We chose to skip Indian Cut (or Indian Cay Pass), which is a tight passage through shallow waters, and went for the less critical route by Memory Rock, a lonely, isolated rock island about 15 miles north of West End. It is the ideal place to go onto the bank, day or night. We got within a mile of the rock (lit at night, most of the time) to avoid trouble with any of the sand banks and turned east and onto the Little Bahama Bank.  The Little Bahama Bank is a large area of shallow water roughly 40 miles on it’s northern and western sides. It averages 14 feet in depth.  Beautiful water and a beautiful day!

We were passing Mangrove Cay at 2:15.  This is another popular anchoring spot when transiting the Little Bahama Bank.  At 5:00 pm we  anchored in the bay at Great Sale Cay and launched our dingy, a 13′ Boston Whaler, for a ride to shore for Abby and a little exploring.
