Marsh Harbour, The Abacos, Bahamas

On the morning of March 7th we left Great Guana Cay to out run a storm on the way back to Marsh Harbour.  The following storm made for some pretty impressive pics.  We were safely docked at the Jib Room before the wind/rain hit.

We’ve enjoyed many fun days in Steve’s old backyard while waiting for the wind to lay down so we can do some more cruising around The Abacos.  Abby is loving her old beach!!

Today we paddled the kayaks out of Marsh Harbour and around to Mermaid Reef!  This reef is right off the shore of Great Abaco and is under the protection of the Bahamas National Trust. There are mooring buoys in the area for those snorkeling from boats but the boats have to be less than 25 feet in length in order to use them. This is a popular snorkeling spot. It is located at Marsh Harbour just about 1 mile south east of the main harbor entrance. The area is pretty hard to miss as there is a floating sign and mooring buoys and the reef is about 50 to 60 feet on the shore side of the mooring buoys. Marine life here can include green moray eels, schools of yellowtail, trumpet fish, four eyed butterfly fish…..and sometimes a resident barracuda keeps it’s eyes on the snorkelers.

That’s Steve’s previous residence behind me (in 2004-2005 after selling Who Cares #2).  I had a blast on several visits there and zipping around The Abacos in his Intrepid!  But loving this trip more!!
