“Wheels up” just before 6:00 am leaving Mackinaw City Municipal Marina bound for Presque Isle, Michigan. While transiting the South Channel, I saw a passing ship, or so I thought. Steve pointed out the huge tug snugged up in the stern of a huge barge. That’s a first for me! We arrived in Presque Isle at the Presque Isle State Harbor marina around 1:00 pm. We had been forewarned, this is a good safe harbor and there are several places to hike to and see some beautiful scenery/lighthouse but don’t plan to provision or any kind of shopping, the only thing in the area is one restaurant/bar…what more do we need?!
We had been hearing Severe Weather Warnings from the Coast Guard all day, warnings starting for Lake Superior but moving throughout the morning to the North Channel, Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Lake Erie…. Luckily we were tied up at our slip and plotting/checking our course for the next day when we noticed the black cloud approaching. As the storm hit our location, the wind speed went from 0-2 mph to 60 mph in less than a couple minutes! Weeeeee! Half an hour later the wind speed was back to 0 mph! The only sign that there had been a crazy squall pass through was a wet boat and docks.

5:35 am at Mackinaw City Municipal Marina
