48′ Hatteras Long Range Cruiser
Owned: March 2013 – October 2015
With her raised pilothouse and sturdy profile, the Hatteras 48 Long Range Cruiser has the strictly business appearance of a serious offshore passagemaker. It is, of course, the raised pilothouse that sets her apart from most of the competition. From here, the 48 LRC can be operated in complete privacy from the rest of the boat. Twin sliding doors provide quick access to the decks, and a watchman’s berth, third head and closet are fitted abaft the helm. The 48 LRC is built on a heavy fiberglass hull with a full keel providing protection to the props and rudders. Freeboard (8’7″ forward) is quite high. Featuring a practical two stateroom layout, the spacious master suite (with a tub in the head compartment) is located directly below the pilothouse. (An optional three-stateroom layout was also available.) The compact galley is forward port in the salon, and the small cockpit is fitted with a boarding door. With 112-hp GM diesels, the Hatteras 48 LRC will cruise at her 8.8 knot hull speed burning only 9 gph. At a 7-knot cruising speed the range exceeds 2,000 miles.
